Cawsie Jijina, PE
Consulting Principal
Cawsie Jijina started at Severud Associates in 1979, became a principal of the firm in 1999, and in 2025 assumed the role of consulting principal. With more than 45 years of experience, he is adept in the design of many structural systems and is formally recognized by the federal, New York State, and Nevada judicial systems as an expert in the field of structural engineering. Cawsie’s many innovative projects include the immersive entertainment venue Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, the TSX Broadway and Palace Theater redevelopment in Manhattan, and the Terminal 6 redevelopment at JFK International Airport in Queens. Other significant projects include the “Transformation” of Madison Square Garden and the mixed-use development at 20 Times Square, both in New York City, as well as the renovation of the LA Forum in Inglewood, California.
Beyond his work at Severud Associates, Cawsie has shared his professional expertise as lead structural engineer for the Building Product Ecosystems study into the use of ground recycled glass in concrete and as a member the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACECNY) Legislative committee and several technical committees of the American Concrete Institute. He has also served ACECNY in the past as vice chair of the Board of Directors and member of the Engineering Excellence committee.
Cawsie was named ACECNY’s 2024 Engineer of the Year for his leadership, commitment, innovation, and service to the consulting engineering industry and the greater New York community. In 2017, Cawsie was named a Leader of Industry by the Concrete Industry Board of New York City.
Cawsie is author or co-author of several magazine articles about his projects and other topics of structural interest.
Cawsie is licensed as a professional engineer in New York and several other states. He was certified by the Structural Engineering Certification Board until the program’s sunset in 2022. He earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi and a Master of Engineering in structural engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle.
