The Severud team was tasked with designing several key components of the station, including a vertical circulation building (VCB) and Train Control Center Building (TCCB), a new entry portal roof and mezzanine bridge over the LIRR tracks, the new Westerly Bridge over the tracks and an expanded NYCT subway station mezzanine. These additions were carefully integrated with the renovation and restoration of the historic 1913 LIRR Jamaica Station, creating a unified and efficient transit hub for the 21st century.<\/p>\n
The VCB, a six-story structure clad in precast panels and glass, is a striking addition to the station.
