Sixty years ago today, on October 4, 1956, Ed Messina joined Severud-Elstad-Krueger, Consulting Engineers, now Severud Associates.\u00a0 A steward of the firm for most of that time, he was named chairman of the board in 2006.<\/p>\n

During his long career, Ed has designed buildings using almost every structural system and material.\u00a0 He has engineered countless iconic and monumental projects, including the Gateway Arch at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., and the expansion of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, as well as many projects at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, also in New York City.\u00a0 In 2010, Ed received the Homer Gage Balcom Award from the Metropolitan Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for his lifetime achievement and advancement of structural engineering.\u00a0 Ed is an active member of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA).\u00a0 He is also a past director of the New York Association of Consulting Engineers (now the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York, ACECNY).<\/p>\n
